Natural History of South Carolina

Carly Drew

Natural History of South Carolina, Red clay, salt, watercolor, vellum, ink, acrylic. 2010.

Welcome to the blog! Here I'll be documenting what's going on in the studio and a few thoughts on life and art. Hope you're game to follow along on the journey! Above is a mixed media drawing that I completed as part of an undergraduate printmaking class. It's meant to visually represent the natural history of South Carolina with the red clay and magnolias. To represent some of the state's more complex history I chose to utilize paper made from is 100% cotton rag and I chose to cut strips and weave them together to represent the state's textile history.
